About the Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria
Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria is one of the best and most prestigious law faculties in Nigeria. The faculty came into existence immediately the university was established in 1960. It will surprise you to know that Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria was the first law faculty to be created in Nigeria. For over 50 years of its existence, this faculty has produced about 12,000 law students. Some of the well known legal practisionals who studied and contributed to the development of the Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria are Prof. Okonkwo (SAN), Prof. Guis Ezejiofor (SAN), Prof. B. O. Nwabueze, Prof. Ogwurike and a host of others.
One of the most alluring buildings located in the faculty, is the Moot court complex. In this building there is the law library. Also, offices of some lecturers are located inside this same building. It is worthwhile to note that UNN Faculty of Law is not at Nsukka (The main campus of the university). It is located at UNEC (University of Nigeria, Enugu campus). This particular campus is meant for Law students, Business students, Architecture, Medical science and Environmental students. UNN Law students association is also called LAWSA (Law students association, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus).
Dress code for UNN law students
Apparently, law students in Nigeria have a unique dress code that differentiates them from other students in school. In UNN for example, law students are under compulsion to put on a white shirt, black trouser, black shoe, black or brown tie and black belt while coming for lectures. Students who do not adhere to this will be punished. In some cases, that student will be reported to the faculty’s disciplinary committee.
