Even the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has attested to the this fact by saying that, some universities in Nigeria are more loved, popular and aspired by university aspirants than others. Well in this article, I will be presenting to you the most populated universities in Nigeria (2019). Meanwhile, it is important to note that the universities here, were not just picked from thin air. All the universities here, have been proven to be the most populated in Nigeria as it stands now.

It is worthy to note that the most populated universities in Nigeria, are indirectly the most competitive universities in Nigeria too. They are populated because of the high number of aspirants who struggle to gain admission into these universities (Most populated universities) every year.

University of Ibadan (UI)

The University Of Ibadan is probably the most populated university in Nigeria. The university was established in 1948. According to historians, UI was the only University that existed in Nigeria during her colonial period. The university was used greatly, to emancipate Nigeria from colonialism. It is located in Ibadan, Oyo state Nigeria. The university of Ibadan (UI) has about 5 (five) campuses. It has so many faculties and courses for students to study. Indeed, UI is the best and most populated university in Nigeria (2019).

UI is popularly known for its high production of great people in the society. According to research, the University of Ibadan is populated with about 35,000 students. That is really a huge population right?

University of Lagos (UNILAG)

Next on my list of the most populated universities in Nigeria, is the University of Lagos (popularly called UNILAG). UNILAG has been in existence since 1962. The university is one of the best federal universities in Nigeria. Currently, UNILAG has a population of about 34,282 students (2019) and about 2,500 staff (both academic and none academic staff). This actually makes the University one of the most populated universities in Nigeria. It is apparently impossible to make the list of most popular universities in Nigeria, without mentioning the University of Lagos.

This university located at Lagos, Nigeria. It is worthy to note that UNILAG is affiliated to the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (popularly called ASUU) and even the Association Of African Universities (AAU).

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (popularly called UNN) is also one of the most popular universities in Nigeria today. The university was established in 1955, though it started its activities in 1960. This university is the indigenous university of Nigeria (The university of Nigeria). UNN was founded by one of the greatest Nigerian Nationalist, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955. It was built with to drastically reduce illiteracy in Nigeria. Today, UNN is one of the most populated universities in Nigeria. It has about 32,000 students who are currently studying in it. Amadu Bello University (ABU)

The Amadu Bello University (Popularly called ABU), is also one of the most populated Universities in Nigeria. The university was also founded by one of the greatest Nigerian Nationalist, Amadu Bello in 1962. Since its inception in 1962, ABU has been the best university in the Northern part of Nigeria. ABU is populated with about 33,000 students as at 2019. There is apparently no doubt that the Amadu Bello University (ABU) is one of the most populated universities in Nigeria. It is located at Zaria Kaduna State, Nigeria.

University of Benin (UNIBEN)

After making good research about the most popular universities in Nigeria, it was clear to me that the University of Benin (Popularly called UNIBEN) is not just one of the best universities in Nigeria, but also one of the most populated in Nigeria. The university was founded in 1970 and is located at Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria. It is pertinent to note that the University of Benin (UNIBEN) was formerly an institution of technology.

Today, the university is apparently one of the most populated in Nigeria. According to Wikipedia, the university has an estimated number of 70,000 students who are currently studying in it. That is indeed, a very huge population.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

It is undoubtedly true that the Obafemi Awolowo University (Also called OAU) is one of the most populated Universities in Nigeria. The university was established in 1961 by Obafemi Awolowo (One of the great fathers of Nigeria).

OAU is currently one of the best Universities in the southern part of Nigeria. It is precisely located at Osun state, Nigeria. The university was recorded one of the biggest Universities in Nigeria with 2,020 hectares in 2019. OAU is populated with about 29,000 students and about 2,200 staff (both teaching and non teaching staff). No doubt, OAU is one of the most populated universities in Nigeria today.

University Of Calabar (UNICAL)

UNICAL is also one of the most populated universities in Nigeria today. According to many scholars, the university is a second generation federal university. This is because the university was recently made a federal university by NUC (National University Commission). The University of Calabar was a campus of UNN until 1975 when the university was reestablished and made a federal university. Since 1975 till now, UNICAL has been impacting in the lives of many Nigerian students. This has indirectly made the university on of the best and most aspired university in Nigeria. UNICAL has an estimated number of 23,000 students who are currently studying in it. UNICAL is also known as the most beautiful universities in Nigeria.

University Of Lagos (LASU)

Indeed, the prestigious Lagos state University (popularly called LASU), is one of the most populated universities in Nigeria today. The university is located at Lagos state Nigeria. LASU was founded 1983. It was established basically to help in reducing the number of illiterate youths in Lagos State, Nigeria. LASU has been recorded to be one of the biggest universities in Nigeria.

Currently, LASU has about 4(Four) campuses. This has really made the school ideal for every aspirant in Lagos state Nigeria. LASU is populated with about 36,000 students from every part of Nigeria.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK)

UNIZIK is also one of the most populated universities in Nigeria. It is a federal university located at Awka, Anambra state. Just like Lagos State University (LASU). It has about two campuses (One is located in Awka and another at Nnewi). Notwithstanding the fact that UNIZIK was established as a result of the defunct ASUTECH (Anambra State University Of Technology), the university has been making great contribution to the growth of education in Nigeria since 1991.

Ambrose Alli University (AAU)

To a very large extent, it is evident that the popular Ambrose Alli University (AAU) is a very populated university in Nigeria. The university was founded in 1981 by the former governor of the Bendel state (Now Edo and Delta state). The university was given its name in commemoration of Professor Ambrose folorunso. AAU is one of those universities that has contributed greatly to the growth and development of education in Nigeria. The university is populated with an estimated number of 29,000 students in 2019. AAU is indeed, one of the best schools to attend in Nigeria.

University Of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)

The last university on my list of the most populated universities in Nigeria, is the university of Port Harcourt (popularly called UNIPORT). UNIPORT was established in 1975. It is obviously one of the oldest universities in Nigeria. Currently, the university has a total of 45,000 students (2019).
