JAMB Marking Scheme & Grading System 2023 (Explained)

JAMB Marking Scheme Updated: One of the things that confuse students about JAMB is how JAMB grade and score. A student once asked me how will JAMB be marked, another asked me what the latest JAMB marking scheme is.

Well, that’s the main reason am writing this article, to bring a stop to the popular questions of how JAMB examination is marked (JAMB marking scheme).

For clarification, this post answers questions related to;

Jamb marking scheme, JAMB grading system, How is JAMB examination marked, how JAMB will mark, how JAMB score, how JAMB grades, and everything related to JAMB marking. 


JAMB UTME Subjects Composition.

Note that the JAMB UTME Examination subject comprises of the following which is listed below:
1: Use of English – Which is mandatory for all candidates.
2: Any three relevant subjects – which fully depends on the choice made by the candidates.

You should be aware, that the Use of English comprises of 150 questions only.

While the other three subjects, according to Candidates course, comprises of fifty (50) questions each.
Take note that the JAMB examination entirely is made up of a total of 300 questions.

The time frame which is given by JAMB to candidates to answer all the 300 questions is 3 Hours 30 Minutes.

Marks Allotted for Each Subject

You should note that each subject in Jamb examination carries 100 marks, which makes the examination, a total 400 marks for the four (4) subjects (That is, if you answer all the questions correctly)

The truth is that candidates can score as high as 400 over 400. It is very possible to score this, but have you ever seen or heard of anyone scoring as high as 400/400?

Jamb Negative Marking (Do Jamb participates in Negative Marking)

There has been lots of speculation about this issue. Some people are with the notion, while others oppose the notion of JAMB using a negative marking scheme.

What is Negative Marking?

Negative marking simply implies, for instance, if you fail or wrongly answered a question, it will automatically cancel one answer that was correctly answered.

However, we want to make it clear enough today on FlashAcademy Nigeria, that JAMB does not by any means implement Negative Marking in their scheme.

In JAMB, you’re graded with the exact score you got correctly.

    1. The registration will begin soon, the delay is due to admission list of 2020/2021 session not fully uploaded yet
